Ceftezole is a semisynthetic first-generation cephalosporin with antibacterial activity. Ceftezole adalah sefalosporin generasi pertama semisintetik dengan aktivitas antibakteri. Ceftezole binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. Ceftezole mengikat dan menonaktifkan protein pengikat penisilin (PBPs) yang terletak di membran dalam dinding sel bakteri. PBPs are enzymes involved in the terminal stages of assembling the bacterial cell wall and in reshaping the cell wall during growth and division. PBP adalah enzim yang terlibat dalam tahap akhir dari pemasangan dinding sel bakteri dan dalam membentuk kembali dinding sel selama pertumbuhan dan pembelahan. Inactivation of PBPs interferes with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity.
